Which fiction "genre" is like pulling teeth to get you to read?

And, did you find a book in that genre that you ended up really enjoying?

Which fiction %26quot;genre%26quot; is like pulling teeth to get you to read?
I tried once to read one of those so-called %26quot;Romance%26quot; novels....I laughed my way through chapter 1 and trash-canned it before I had finished chapter 2.

How can people read that crapola????
Reply:Courtroom %26quot;thrillers%26quot;..........can%26#039;t get on with them.

I find them boring and formulaic, and I don%26#039;t enjoy the films either.

I%26#039;ve tried John Grisham, as everyone says he is the best in the field, but I don%26#039;t like his either.
Reply:Before, when i was younger, i thought fantasy novels would be pointless like nothing in them would ever happen so what was the point in reading them. I read one, got to enjoy it, read the series, and then another series not related to but the same author. Then i read a series that was not related to those and had a different author. now when i read, it is mainly fantasy as most other stories, such as olde english, historic fiction and such, can get to be predictable and a bore.
Reply:Mainstream fiction. I hate reading about everyday life where nothing really happens. Give me a good mystery or thriller any day. No, I%26#039;ve yet to find one worth finishing.
Reply:%26quot;Great psychological novels%26quot; with upper-class characters living on inherited wealth; shuttling back and forth from New York to Europe fondly remembering their days at Harvard; especially when the authors, however brilliant, have never learned how to formulate a simple sentence, and cannot express a thought plainly. They wouldn%26#039;t pass English composition if I were grading their papers. In other words, I never have developed a proper appreciation for the great Henry James, much less his far less-brilliant and less-original imitators. It must be my own failing, because smarter people than me seem to really like that stuff..
Reply:sci fi.... uh, what CRAP! i read this really stupid book that was like 150 pgs. haha i never read books that short. anyways it was about these siblings that got taken away from there little island dee pee three. i had trouble taking it seriously.
Reply:Fantasy
Reply:Historical fiction, some romance and westerns.
Reply:Thrillers that are heavy on the military and techno-jargon like Tom Clancy. Zzzzzzz.
Reply:Romance
Reply:Sci-fi, blech, too geeky for my tastes. Which is ironic, considering I write fantasy. But, I prefer being able to craft my own worlds instead of adhering to strict rules that will be scrutinized over and over and over again by people on the internet.

And no, never found a good sci-fi book I like to read.
